Six people have been arrested and charged in connection with separate incidents of alleged assaults on police officers in Glasgow city centre over the weekend.

Police Scotland said three of the men, aged 34, 35 and 40, were due to have appeared at Glasgow Sheriff Court on Monday.

Two men aged, 38 and 43, were reported to the procurator fiscal.

A teenage girl was also issued with a recorded police warning.

Local area commander Ch Insp Stephen McManus said: “Assaults on our officers are absolutely unacceptable.

“They have the fundamental right to come home from each shift unharmed.

“It is not part of the job, and it is important we report any violence against emergency service workers and hold those responsible to account.”

McManus added the safety of officers was a priority for the force and there had been “significant investment in training and equipment.
