Sea wall ‘spectacularly failed’, says councillor

There are calls for a “full and frank investigation” after a councillor says Wirral’s £20m sea wall “spectacularly failed” to stop homes and businesses being flooded.

Waves spilled over the newly formed West Kirby sea wall onto South Parade during a storm on Tuesday.

Councillor Stuart Kelly said there should be an investigation into “why the very expensive sea defences” failed “so spectacularly”.

But Wirral Council leader Paul Stuart said the wall was not designed to completely stop water coming over.
