Scotland players ‘good enough’ for Lions selection – Bryan Easson

The inaugural women’s British and Irish Lions squad will not simply be an all-English select, according to Scotland head coach Bryan Easson.

The female Lions side will tour for the first time in 2027 with a three-Test series against world champions New Zealand.

And Easson believes Scotland, Wales and Ireland players will have an important role to play.

“We’ve got some really good individuals, Wales have got some really good individuals, Ireland have got some really good individuals,” Easson said.

“What we need to do is bring our team up to make sure we’re performing.

“Do I see it being an all-England Lions? No, I don’t, because there is some real good talent across the British Isles.”

England have won the last five consecutive Six Nations and have steamrolled the competition so far this season, registering big wins over Italy, Wales, Scotland and Ireland to set-up a final weekend title shootout with France.

Their dominance has prompted suggestions the Lions tour will be nothing more than an England team in red jerseys, but Easson thinks some of his players can force their way into the squad.

“The players, let’s be honest about it, they talk about it,” said Easson, whose side can clinch a third place Six Nations finish for the first time since 2005 if they beat Ireland on Saturday.

“They’re ambitious, they want to go to World Cups and they also want to play for the Lions.

“Are there players in our squad that I think are good enough? Yes, there are. I think it’s a good concept.”
