A school has closed after a fire resulted in about 240 pupils, staff, and other workers being evacuated.

South Wales Fire Service sent five fire engines to St Athan Primary School, in the Vale of Glamorgan, to tackle the blaze.

Vale of Glamorgan Council said it will assess the damage and that an announcement about teaching arrangements would be made as soon as possible.

The school sent an email out to staff where it said it would remain closed until February half term.

The fire service said work was underway to establish the cause of the fire, which started in the roof.

There were no injuries.
