England back row Sam Underhill has been given a three-week suspension following his red card in Bath’s Challenge Cup win against Pau last Friday.
Underhill was sent off in the 55th minute for a high tackle on Pau centre Oliver Klemenczak and could see his ban reduced to two weeks if he completes a World Rugby coaching course.
The 28-year-old accepted that the tackle was foul play but challenged that it deserved a red card. But an independent disciplinary panel upheld the decision.
A six-week World Rugby sanction was handed out with a 50% mitigation to three weeks because of Underhill’s good record and his cooperation with the panel.
He will miss Bath’s Challenge Cup quarter-final against Gloucester on Sunday as well as their Premiership match away to Exeter on 19 April and possibly at home to Newcastle on 26 April, pending his completion of the course.
