Ryan Gravenberch withdraws from Netherlands squad with injury

Liverpool midfielder Ryan Gravenberch has withdrawn from the Netherlands squad for their two-legged Nations League quarter-final against Spain because of injury.

The 22-year-old picked up a knock during the Reds’ Carabao Cup final defeat by Newcastle at Wembley on Sunday.

“The midfielder is still suffering from an injury sustained over the weekend that prevents him from playing in the matches against Spain,” the Netherlands’ national team said on social media.

Dutch boss Ronald Koeman has opted against calling up a replacement for the Spain fixtures, which take place in Rotterdam on Thursday and then Valencia on Sunday.

The injury means Gravenberch, who has made 41 appearances for Liverpool in all competitions this season, could be a doubt for the Reds’ next fixture – the Merseyside derby at home to Everton on 2 April.
