A significant proportion of the mail handled by the office is what is known as three-day and five-day economy mail, which includes bank and medical correspondence.
Royal Mail said this could sometimes mean customers receiving several items together, as different items may arrive at the office at different times but their delivery time falls on the same day.
A spokesperson said: “We know how important it is that customers receive their mail when expected.
“We are actively recruiting at Inverness delivery office and bringing in additional resource to support the team.
“Mail continues to be delivered across Inverness and our focus is on providing customers with a reliable and consistent service.”
