Ross McCrorie returns to Rangers from Bristol City

McCrorie moved to Ashton Gate in the summer of 2023 for a reported £2m fee and made 89 appearances for City – 41 of those last season.

In May, the Championship side took up the option to extend his terms by a year.

Capped twice for Scotland and included in the squad for Euro 2024, McCrorie played regularly at right-back for City but can operate across the defence and has been used as a midfielder, his predominant position in his first Rangers spell.

And McCrorie has been given the number two jersey vacated by long-serving captain James Tavernier, who has moved on after 11 years at the club.

“Ross is someone I signed for Aberdeen from Rangers, and at that time he wanted to go out and prove himself, which I think says a lot for him,” said McInnes, who joined from Hearts last week, of his first Rangers signing.

“He has developed and improved as a player, he has got that added experience, he is a full international now and he knows the club inside out.

“In the conversations I have had with him, a lot of things I am saying are things he wants from the club as well, so he’s a determined and competitive boy on the pitch, and he is determined to bring good times back to the club.”

McCrorie joins fellow Scotland international Lawrence Shankland in joining Rangers this summer, with Shankland at the World Cup with Scotland currently.
