Rangers manager Phillipe Clement confirmed Neraysho Kasanwirjo may have surgery after sustaining a “longer-term injury” on international duty.
The Feyenoord loanee was forced off during Netherlands Under-21s’ 1-1 draw with England on Monday.
Kasanwirjo has been an option across the Rangers defence for Clement, making 12 appearances far this season, and the Belgian described losing the Dutchman as a “big blow”.
“He’s going to have an appointment with the surgeon,” the Rangers boss said.
“It’s for sure a longer-term injury and now it’s about seeing what the precise problem is.
“We’re talking with Feyenoord about where to have the surgery and the rehab. It’s hard. He was adapting really well to the club and the mentality here.”
In more positive news for Rangers, left-back Ridvan Yilmaz is fit to play again and will be in the squad to face Dundee United on Saturday having been out since August, while winger Oscar Cortes will return to training next week.
Winger Rabbi Matondo played in a friendly during the international break but still has a “small problem” so won’t be fit for the weekend.
Rangers trail Celtic and Aberdeen by nine points in the Scottish Premiership.
