A prisoner who failed to return to jail from an approved home visit has been captured on camera travelling on a bus to North Ayrshire.

Police were alerted when James Fitzpatrick, 36, did not report back to HMP Castle Huntly – an open jail in Dundee – on Tuesday.

He was last seen in Irvine town centre about 11:20 on Monday when he boarded the No 11 Stagecoach bus for Ardrossan.

He then got off the bus at 12:00 on Main Street in Stevenston, heading towards New Street. Police Scotland said he has not been seen since and officers are keen to find him.

Fitzpatrick is described as being white, about 5ft 8in tall, of stocky build, with short, brown hair.

When last seen he was wearing a black Nike tracksuit with white stripes down the arms and legs.

He was carrying a yellow JD Sports carrier bag and a black holdall.

Police have advised members of the public not to approach him if they see him.

Anyone with information about his whereabouts is asked to contact the force or Crimestoppers.
