Pontypool: Police break up rave at former industrial site

Police say they have broken up an illegal rave at a former industrial site.

Gwent Police received reports early on Wednesday morning of “loud music” coming from The British, near Pontypool, Torfaen.

The British is an old iron works and colliery site that has been derelict for several decades.

Supt Stephen Drayton said “power to the site has now been disconnected” and a section 63 dispersal notice has been issued to those in the area.

“Raves can cause serious disruption to nearby residents, pose risks to those in attendance, and will not be tolerated,” he said.

Police also asked people to avoid the area.

The 1,300 acre (526 hectares) site is now the scene of a major regeneration project, according to Torfaen council.
