Police say 51 officers injured in Rotherham hotel riot

The number of officers injured in the Rotherham hotel riot has been confirmed as 51, South Yorkshire Police said.

They suffered injuries including broken bones, concussion, bruising and head wounds during the violence outside the Holiday Inn Express in Manvers on Sunday, the force said.

Police horses and dogs also suffered injuries, with one horse having to retire due to a hoof injury, a spokesperson added.

Frontline officers were targeted by missiles, which included concrete blocks, chairs, branches, fire extinguishers, glass bottles and cans, during the “horrendous disorder”.
