Phillip Rotherham, 87, was taken to hospital after the accident which happened on Whitehaugh Park at about 18:25 on Thursday, but he later died.

His 80-year-old wife, who was travelling in the same silver Honda HRV, was also taken to hospital for treatment.

Mr Rotherham’s family said the loss of a beloved dad, granddad, brother, uncle and husband was “devastating”.

A statement released via Police Scotland added: “He lived a long life, but at an active 87, we feel he has left us too soon.

“As well as being an involved member of his community, Phillip was a quiet and thoughtful man who loved nature.

They thanked the emergency services for their efforts at the scene and also the local community for its “compassion at this difficult time”.

Police said their investigations were ongoing and asked anyone with information to come forward.

Sgt Philip Winning said: “Our thoughts remain with the family as we continue our inquiries into the collision.”
