Police investigating the death of a man in Coleraine have been granted an extra 36 hours to question a 33-year-old man arrested on suspicion of murder.

43-year old Wayne Reid’s body was found at a house in Society Court in the town on Monday.

Mr Reid, who is believed to have had ties to Scotland and to have been a father of one, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police officers and the ambulance service went to a property in Society Court following a report received at 11:30 GMT on Monday.

Police believe Mr Reid may have been involved in an altercation, sometime between Thursday 8 January and Saturday 10 January, in Society Court or Society Street.

Det Ch Insp Hazel Miller said: “My thoughts are firmly with Mr Reid’s family and loved ones, as they try to come to terms with their loss.

“Detectives are working at pace to establish the exact circumstances surrounding Mr Reid’s death and I am appealing for anyone with information that could assist our investigation to come forward.”
