Pedestrian dies after being hit by police car in Acocks Green Birmingham

A pedestrian has died after a collision with a police car in Birmingham on Wednesday evening, West Midlands Police said in a statement.

The 40-year-old man was pronounced dead at the scene and his family is being supported, the force added. The two officers who were in the vehicle were not injured, it said.

Police say the collision with the marked police car took place just before 19:00 on Yardley Road, near the junction with Florence Road in Acocks Green.

Officers were responding to a 999 call reporting a man carrying knives on Warwick Road in Acocks Green, according to the statement.

Other officers attended the report of the man with the knives but there was no sign of any disorder on arrival, police said.

The force said it was liaising with the Independent Office for Police Conduct over the incident.

It has appealed for anyone with information, including dashcam footage, to come forward.
