A 44-year-old pedestrian has been airlifted to hospital after being struck by a car near Fort Augustus on Sunday.

The incident, which also involved a black Volkswagen Golf, happened at Bridge of Oich at Aberchalder, on the A82 at 14:30.

The woman was taken by air ambulance to Raigmore Hospital in Inverness, where her condition is described as serious.

The main route between Inverness and Fort William was closed for six hours to allow for police investigations to take place.

Sgt Chris Donaldson said officers were making inquiries to establish the full circumstances of the incident.

They are keen to speak to witnesses who have not yet spoken to officers.
