Paris 2024 Olympics: Neil Gourley keen to ‘not just be a tourist’

Neil Gourley says he is not going to the Paris Olympics “just to be a tourist”.

The 29-year-old Scot’s recent 1500m win at the UK Athletics Championships made sure of his Team GB place.

Gourley is a European silver medallist over the distance.

“I’m lacking that major medal at a global championship and this would be a great year to do it,” he told BBC Radio Scotland’s Sportsound.

“I’m definitely looking to go to this Olympics not just to be a tourist.

“There’s ambitions there of medals and that’s what we’re looking to go do there.”

Compatriots Josh Kerr, 26, and Jake Wightman, 29, are the past two world champions over 1500m and both join Gourley in the British team, with Wightman going in the 800m event in the French capital.

“It’s going to be an incredible challenge,” added Gourley.

“The level is so high at the moment in the world but I’ve been making progress year on year.

“Some of my colleagues in Jake and Josh have shown that that level is so achievable. I’m aspiring to get to that and putting in the work just now to make that happen.”
