A well-known hotelier and restaurateur has been charged with murder following the death of his 100-year-old mother.
Jeremy Mogford, 78, from Oxford, has been charged alongside 71-year-old Sarah Pickering, from Guildford, with one count of murder and one count of attempted murder.
Thames Valley Police said the charges related to the death of Pamela Mogford on 15 February 2022 in Bedlow Ridge, Buckinghamshire.
The pair appeared via video link at Oxford Crown Court on Thursday and have been released on bail.
They are next due to appear on 13 March.
In a statement, Mr Mogford said: “I have cooperated fully with this investigation and, as I have said to the Police, this accusation is complete nonsense.”
“Our mother was nearly 101 years old and died… of old age.”
The 78-year-old founded various independent hotels and restaurants in Oxford including the Old Bank Hotel and Old Parsonage Hotel, Quod Restaurant, Parsonage Grill and Gee’s Restaurant.
