‘One of a kind’ Burbage teacher Stephen Webb dies after cancer diagnosis

A teacher described as “one of a kind” has died after being diagnosed with a brain tumour.

Stephen Webb, who was the co-head of English at Hastings High School, in Burbage, Leicestershire, died on Sunday.

A fundraiser to help Mr Webb pay to have private immunotherapy for glioblastoma reached its target of £150,000 in eight days in September 2024.

In a statement on social media, the family said their “hearts are broken” and thanked those who had supported them.

The family added: “Despite his immense courage through two surgeries and treatment, the tumour returned with heartbreaking speed.

“In his final moments, Stephen was surrounded by his family, held in love and peace.

“Our hearts are broken, and the loss feels immeasurable, yet there is still so much we must do to carry through as a family.

“At this time, we kindly ask for no contact as we navigate this profound grief together.”

Claire Bradley, co-head teacher at Hastings High School, previously said Mr Webb was a well-loved member of the school community.

“He is one of a kind. Mr Webb is the teacher that you never forget. He is the teacher you wish you had,” she added.
