Officer charged over death of man hit by police car

The Police Investigations & Review Commissioner (Pirc) said its report had been submitted to the Crown Office and Procurator Fiscal Service.

The Crown Office and Procurator Fiscal Service said it could not comment on the nature charge until the officer had appeared in court.

A spokesperson added: “The procurator fiscal has received a report from Pirc. The report is under consideration.”

Digby Brown Solicitors said it was supporting Mr Hynes’ family with a fatal accident claim.

A spokesman said: “Ian’s family have been left devastated by this truly upsetting and untimely loss.”

New sentencing guideline toughening up penalties for death by driving offences were issued by the Scottish Sentencing Council in January.
