New teacher returns to former Bilston school for dream job

As children begin returning to school, a newly-qualified teacher is set to take a trip down memory lane after securing a job at her former school.

Evanie Morris used to attend Villiers Primary School in Bilston, Wolverhampton, and said she is “excited” to be returning there at the start of her career.

The new teacher graduated from the University of Wolverhampton in July and was overjoyed when she was able to fulfil her childhood dreams at her school.

“I am feeling excited. I am also a little bit nervous, but mostly I’m excited to see all the children and jump straight into it,” the 23-year-old from Bilston told BBC Radio WM.

Morris added: “I’m going back to my old school and my old class too.

“It was surreal and a bit strange but I’m very proud because it’s a full circle moment from sitting in class to having a classroom of my own.

“There are a lot of staff that are still here and seeing them rise through the ranks has been inspiring and speaking to them reassures me of my career path whenever I have any doubts.

“It has already been so rewarding and it hasn’t started properly yet so my advice to those that are in the middle of their journeys is to persevere.”

For assistant head teacher Carly McKenzie, it is also a blast from the past as she has fond memories of teaching Morris.
