Mum of Southport victim makes promise to youngest daughter

The mother of a girl who was murdered in the Southport knife attack has vowed not to let the killer “ruin” her younger daughter’s life.

Jenni Stancombe’s daughter Elsie Dot was killed alongside Alice da Silva Aguiar and Bebe King, at a Taylor Swift-themed dance class on 29 July, 2024.

Speaking about killer Axel Rudakubana, Stancombe said: “He took one away from me. I will not give him the satisfaction of ruining another.”

Stancombe told how she and her husband Dave were determined to let their other daughter live a “normal” life.

The Ministry of Justice revealed on Thursday that Rudakubana, was transferred from HMP Belmarsh to Broadmoor, the high-security psychiatric hospital in Berkshire.

Stancombe told Giovanna Fletcher’s Happy Mum , externalpodcast she always wanted to be a mother and conceived Elsie Dot months after her wedding.

Like her sibling, Stancombe’s younger daughter attends dance classes and loves cheerleading.

She said: “Me and Day [Dave] both committed to that, that we have to try and give her as normal life as possible.”
