India seam bowler Mukesh Kumar has joined Nottinghamshire’s attempt to keep hold of the County Championship title.

The 32-year-old, who made the last of his three Test appearances for India against England in 2024, moves to Trent Bridge with Notts second in Division One and just four points behind leaders Somerset with two matches remaining.

Kumar has taken 233 first-class wickets during his career which, until now, has been spent entirely playing in India.

He arrives in the English game just days after taking 3-62 to help East Zone beat South Zone to win the Duleep Trophy final for the first time in 14 years.

Nottinghamshire head coach Peter Moores said Kumar is a “quality” addition at such “a crucial time of the season”.

“It’s fantastic for us to get a player who’s match-ready and in full competitive mode ahead of two big games for the club,” Moores told the club website., external
