Hikers at Gyeyangsan mountain in South Korea found an unexpected surprise at the summit – a huge swarm of ‘lovebugs’.

In a video shared to social media, a hiker who visited the mountain is seen covered in the small insects and swatting them away with an electric bug zapper.

The mountain was “covered with bugs” that formed a “thick carpet”, he told local media.

Lovebugs – given the name due to their habit of flying around in pairs – have been appearing in large numbers across parts of South Korea in the last few years, according to local reports.
