Bristol Bears have signed experienced Argentina international Matias Moroni on a short-term deal.

The 34-year-old – who can play on the wing and centre – comes in as extra cover following a number of injuries to the Bears’ back line.

They include AJ MacGinty (Achilles), Gabriel Ibitoye (hamstring) and James Williams (ankle), who are likely to be out until 2026, while Louis Rees-Zammit has a toe injury.

Moroni has 93 caps for the Pumas with 13 tries and was part of the Leicester Tigers side that won the Prem title in 2022.

Most recently he was playing his club rugby for French side CA Brive, where he only featured in nine matches, scoring two tries.

Director of rugby Pat Lam said: “With the high volume of injuries to our senior backs, we’re pleased to be able to bring in a player of Matias’ experience and quality to boost our backline options for the next few weeks.”
