Marta: 38-year-old striker signs new two-year Orlando Pride deal

Women’s football legend Marta, 38, has signed a new two-year contract with National Women’s Soccer League champions Orlando Pride.

She has extended her club career following her retirement from international football after helping Brazil to an Olympic silver medal at Paris 2024.

Marta, who holds the record for most goals at a World Cup finals by a player of any gender with 17, scored 11 times for Pride in the 2024 season.

“It has been the honour of a lifetime to represent this community, to be your captain and to bring the first ever league championship to the city of Orlando,” Marta said in a video posted to social media, external on Thursday. “I’m staying home!”

In an illustrious career, Marta has been named Fifa Women’s Player of the Year six times.

Such is her impact on the sport, Fifa has renamed its annual trophy for the best goal scored in women’s football during the calendar year as the Marta Award.
