Man sustains head injuries after crowbar assault

A man has sustained head and leg injuries after an assault involving a crowbar in Belfast city centre.

Police were notified of the incident between 02:00 and 03:00 GMT on Thursday.

The driver of a black and white Audi pulled up outside a licensed premised in Patterson’s Place, exited the vehicle and punched a man, police said.

A passenger then exited the car and struck the man with a crowbar.

A short while later, Police Service of Northern Ireland (PSNI) officers attended a property in Downpatrick and arrested a man in his 20s.

He was arrested on suspicion of a number of offences including possession of an offensive weapon with intent to commit an indictable offence and assault occasioning actual bodily harm.

He has been released on bail to allow for further enquiries.

Police have appealed for information.
