The fire broke out in the town’s Lochnell Street

A man has died following a fire at a flat in Lochgilphead in Argyll.

Fire and police were called to an address in the town’s Lochnell Street at 07:45 on Sunday after a report of a property on fire.

The man was pronounced dead at the scene and two other men were taken to hospital for treatment.

Streets surrounding the property remain closed to motorists and pedestrians, including Lochnell Street, Union Street and Campbell Street.

Local residents are advised to stay inside with their windows and doors closed.

Det Insp Peter MacMillan said: “Our thought are with the family and friends of the man that has died in this fire.

“Our investigations into the cause are ongoing but it does not appear to be wilful.”

The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service (SFRS) told the BBC four appliances and a height vehicle attended the scene, which was in a three-storey block of flats.
