Man dies following car crash in Motherwell

The crash happened on Carfin Road in Motherwell

A 61-year-old man has died following a crash in Motherwell on Sunday.

The crash happened at about 09:35 on the B7066 Carfin Road, between the junctions of Whittagreen Crescent and Whittagreen Avenue.

The driver of a Renault Captur was taken to University Hospital Wishaw where he was pronounced dead a short time later.

Emergency services closed the road for more than five hours to allow an investigation to take place at the scene. It has since reopened.

The man’s next of kin have been informed.

Sgt Adnan Alam, of the road policing unit, said the force’s thoughts were with the victim.

He added: “Our inquiries are under way and I would appeal to anyone who witnessed the crash, or who may have dashcam footage from the area around the time of the crash to get in touch.
