Man dies after falling through Suffolk play centre skylight

A man who fell through a skylight while working at a play centre has died in hospital.

The incident happened at Play2Day in Martlesham Heath, near Ipswich, while the man was working for a contractor carrying out roof maintenance in June.

A spokesperson for Britpark Leisure, which owns the building, said they had been informed by the family of David Linyard that he had died as a result of his injuries.

They offered their thoughts to his family and added they were “fully” cooperating with the investigation being carried out by Suffolk Police, East Suffolk Council and the Health and Safety Executive.

“We were informed by the family of Mr David Linyard that he had tragically died of injuries sustained in an accident whilst carrying out routine maintenance on the roof of our Play2Day children’s play centre at Martlesham Heath, Ipswich,” the Britpark Leisure spokesperson said.

“Our thoughts and deepest sympathies continue to be with his friends and family.

“We have been working closely with the local authority to ensure that remediation works are carried out in compliance with all relevant regulations and standards and we have fully cooperated with their investigation and will continue to do so.”

Suffolk Police confirmed a man involved in the incident in June later died in hospital.

“The coroner was notified and the joint investigation involving Suffolk Police, East Suffolk Council and the Health & Safety Executive continues,” a spokesperson added.

East Suffolk Council said it was continuing its investigations, but police had “primacy”.

A Health and Safety Executive spokesperson also confirmed it was part of the investigations.

Earlier this month Britpark Leisure said the centre was temporary closed to ensure repairs were carried out.
