Man, 72, charged with rape and human trafficking

The accused appeared at Belfast Magistrates Court

A 72-year-old man has appeared in court charged with a number of offences including rape and human trafficking.

Oliver James MacCormack, 72, appeared at Belfast Magistrates’ court via videolink from custody in Maghaberry prison.

He is charged with 14 offences involving two alleged victims.

The charges include human trafficking, rape, two counts of administering a substance with sexual intent, two counts of controlling prostitution for gain, causing or inciting prostitution for gain and three counts of being concerned in the supply of class A drugs.

He is also charged with intimidation and three counts of paying for sexual services.

The alleged offences occurred on dates between the 1 January 2016 and 5 May 2022.

A detective constable told the court he could connect the accused to the charges.

MacCormack spoke only to confirm he understood the charges against him.

No bail application was made and the case was adjourned for four weeks until 5 February.
