Man, 21 dies and another injured after city centre assault

A 21-year-old man has died and another has been injured following an incident in Glasgow City Centre.

Police were called to reports of a disturbance in Royal Exchange Square at about 03:05 on Sunday.

The force said the 21-year-old was seriously injured during the assault. He was taken to hospital where he died on Monday.

A 19-year-old man was arrested in connection with the disturbance but released pending further inquiries.

Police confirmed that another man, also 21, suffered minor injuries during the disturbance.

A 20-year-old man was arrested and charged in connection with this assault. He will appear at Glasgow Sheriff Court at a later date.

Det Insp Jonny MacKinnon said: “No-one has been arrested in connection with the death of the man at this time and extensive inquiries are ongoing to establish the full circumstances.”
