When it comes to our appearance it might seem as if we are tied to our genetics and other factors we can’t influence. However, the use of cosmetics can make a huge difference in how we look.
It is even the case that certain styles of make-up can affect how old or young a person looks, with some adding or subtracting years to your face.
One expert, however, revealed some top make-up tips when applying eyeshadow.
Kimberly Weimer, who specialises in cosmetics hacks for women over 50, shared three of the “biggest mistakes” you might be making.
Speaking on the social media platform TikTok, she said: “We’re going to talk about three of the biggest mistakes that you could be making with your eyeshadow with mature eyes.”
These included:
- Placing a dark colour in the crease of the eyelids
- Placing eyeliner from the outer corner of the eye to the inside
- Using a shimmer eyeshadow under the brow.
Kim explained: “So the first one being that, especially if you have deep set eyes like I do, or hooded eyes, is taking a really dark colour and placing it directly in the crease.
“That only accentuates that deep crease, and you can’t see the colour anyway.”
She explained what to do instead: “Instead, use a neutral shadow, keep your eyes open, look straight ahead, and place it above the crease.”
When it comes to eyeliner, you should work from the inner corner of the eye to the outer corner.
Kim continued: “Eyeliner – build that colour to the outer corner for lift and then make sure in that lower lash line that you’re having it meet with the upper lash line.
“Smudge it out for a softer look. You can even use that transition shade to add to that bottom lash line, versus going from the outer to the inner corner of the upper lash line, and then the outer to the inner corner of the lower lash line. It just closes up the eye.”
Finally, she warned against using a shimmer underneath of the brow.
“It just ages you,” she said. Instead, she advised using a matte colour.
“And then you can even put a little bit in the inner corner, just to bring a little bit of light to the inner corner so you can see the difference between the first and the second one,” she added.
Her followers were impressed. One said: “Wow I’m going to try this. I have hooded/deep-set eyes too.”
Another commented: “Wow, what a difference!”
