Major search and rescue operation in Sidmouth scaled back

A major search and rescue operation in a seaside town has been scaled back after emergency services failed to find anything.

Devon and Cornwall Police said emergency services were called to Salcombe Road in Sidmouth shortly before 10:00 GMT on Saturday, after members of the public “reported concerns about an object seen in the water”.

Police said: “A multi-agency search and rescue operation took place but at this time nothing has been located.

“Searches at the scene are reducing however enquiries remain ongoing.”
