M62 crash drug driver admits causing girlfriend’s death

A man has admitted his dangerous driving while on ketamine caused the death of his girlfriend in a motorway crash.

Kate Swale was killed in the collision between a grey Vauxhall Corsa and a silver Mercedes on the M62 near Huyton in Merseyside on 27 May 2023.

Jamie Hughes pleaded guilty on Tuesday at Liverpool Crown Court to causing the death through dangerous driving of his 21-year-old girlfriend, who had been the front-seat passenger in his Corsa.

Hughes, 23, and of Belton Road in Huyton, was remanded in custody and will be sentenced at the same venue on 17 January.
