The M62 in West Yorkshire has been closed in both directions due to a serious crash, National Highways said.
Emergency services would need to carry out collision investigation at the scene, so the road would likely remain closed for “several hours”.
The crash, which was first reported just after 15:00 GMT, happened between junction 24 for Huddersfield and junction 25 at Brighouse.
There were about two miles of congestion in both directions, the agency said.
