M4 near Swindon closed after lorry carrying hay sets on fire

There are major delays on the M4 motorway after a “significant” fire involving a lorry carrying bales of hay.

The motorway is closed westbound between junction 15 for Badbury and junction 16 for Swindon, with severe congestion eastbound.

Crews are tending to 10 to 15 tonnes of hay bales which are still alight and charred, said Dorset and Wiltshire Fire and Rescue Service. No injuries have been reported.

Wiltshire Police said the carriageway was expected to be closed until late afternoon and potential emergency repairs to the road could result in some overnight closures.
