Drivers have faced severe delays after the M1 motorway was shut in both directions as police deal with an incident.
According to National Highways, the incident took place near Watford, at about 15:00 GMT, and led to the southbound section being closed between junction five and six, before it reopened at about 18:30.
The northbound carriageway remained closed after the evening rush hour with drivers informed they faced delays of more than 90 minutes.
Diversions have been put in place, National Highways said. Hertfordshire Police has been approached for comment.
