Luton stabbing: Police launch murder investigation after teenager dies

Police have launched a murder investigation after a teenage boy died following a stabbing in Luton.

Bedfordshire Police said officers responded to reports of violent disorder in Kingsway Recreation Ground at about 18:30 on Friday, where a number of teenagers were seen carrying large knives.

A 17-year-old, who has not been identified, was taken to hospital with multiple stab wounds but was pronounced dead shortly after, the force said.

One teenage boy has been arrested on suspicion of violent disorder and is in police custody for questioning. A second was arrested but remains in hospital with serious but non-life threatening injuries.

Police are appealing to the public for information.

In a statement, Det Ch Insp Nick Gardener condemned the “horrific violence” that has “sadly cost a teenage boy his life today”.

“Our thoughts are first and foremost with the loved ones of the boy who lost his life in such tragic circumstances,” he said.

Such incidents have “a significant impact on our communities”, he said.

He also urged the public to contact police with any information they have and not to share any images and videos circulating on social media.

An increased police presence and patrols will remain in the area.
