Ludgershall murder investigation after man’s body found in woods

A murder investigation has been launched following the discovery of a man’s body in woodland.

Wiltshire Police said they were called out to a “concern for welfare” check in the town of Ludgershall at 15:41 BST on 24 September.

Two hours later officers discovered the body of a man in his 60s near the polo field close to Perham Down.

Following an initial post-mortem examination, the death is being treated as suspicious, the force has now said.

Det Ch Insp Phil Walker, said the priority is to “establish exactly what has happened” and urged anyone with any information to come forward.

“Our investigation is in its early stages, and we are working at pace to establish the circumstances of this man’s death,” he said.

“It is critical that we hear from anyone who may have been in the area of the polo field and surrounding woodland on Thursday 24 September between 9am and 6pm who may have noticed something out of the ordinary.”
