A lorry fire has caused delays of up to an hour on the M62 near Huddersfield.

West Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service said crews were called at 06:35 BST to the westbound carriage between junctions 22 and 23 to reports of a large vehicle on fire.

A fire service spokesperson said the blaze had since been extinguished and confirmed no-one had been injured.

National Highways said the carriageway remained shut between junctions 23 and 24 with traffic queuing for six miles (9.7km), stretching back to junction 26 for Bradford south.

Traffic caught within the closure was now passing the scene in the third lane, the agency said, and a diversion was in place from junction 24.

“If this closure impacts on your planned route, please allow extra journey time,” a National Highways spokesperson said.

“Plan ahead, you may wish to re-route or even delay your journey.”

Emergency services, including West Yorkshire Fire and Rescue and National Highways traffic officers, are in attendance.
