Lincolnshire floods: Boy, 17, rescued from floodwater in Grimsby

In East Yorkshire, 17 flood warnings have been issued including at Bielby, near Pocklington, Leven, Routh and Meaux, and Upper Hull catchment.

About 25 road closures are in place due to flooding including the A1 between the B6326 near Newark-on-Trent and the B1174 near Grantham.

In a statement on Monday night, Lincolnshire Resilience Forum (LRF) said : “We are keeping a really close watch on this as it develops because we know that there might potentially be more flooding, particularly in areas which may be affected by tidal waters.”

It also said emergency services were on standby at Greatford, near Stamford, to monitor the West Glen River, which it said threatened to inundate 49 properties in the area.

In the House of Commons, environment minister Emma Hardy told MPs on Monday flooding was “a personal priority” for her, adding that the Environment Agency was particularly concerned about Lincolnshire, Leicestershire, Warwickshire and Nottinghamshire.

Warning of further “localised” flooding, she pledged to overhaul the government’s approach to funding flood defences “to ensure the challenges facing businesses and rural and coastal communities are taken into account when delivering flood protection”.

About 50 pupils were evacuated from a school in Edenham, Lincolnshire, along with the teachers.

All roads leading to Edenham Primary School, near Bourne, were flooded after heavy rainfall and volunteer drivers in 4×4 vehicles drove the children through the water to safety, the LRF said.
