Lib Dem Camden councillor to contest Starmer’s seat

The Liberal Democrats have selected Camden councillor Patrick Stillman as the party’s candidate in the Holborn and St Pancras by-election on 8 October.

The seat became vacant when Sir Keir Starmer stood down as an MP to take a role in international affairs.

Stillman became a councillor for the West Hampstead ward earlier this year and is the outgoing chairman of Camden Liberal Democrats.

He said he was “proud” to have been selected to stand in next month’s by-election. “Voters here deserve better than a Labour government in chaos, or a Green Party using this seat to prop up its leader’s ambitions,” he said.

Stillman added: “We have a distinct, confident liberal message – on housing, on safety, on giving young Londoners like me a fair shot at building a life here – and I’m going to make that case on every doorstep between now and 8 October.”

He will face Camden Council leader Sagal Abdi-Wali for Labour, Green Party leader Zack Polanski and former Conservative councillor Ewan Cameron.

Nominations close at 16:00 BST on Tuesday.
