Lewis and Islay singers win gold at Oban’s Royal National Mòd

Ms MacMillan said: “I’m so, so happy to have won the Gold Medal – and I’m even happier that my family were here from Lewis to see me go for it, that means a lot to me.”

Mr Johnston said: “It’s unbelievable to be taking the Gold Medal home with me.

“It’s a fantastic feeling to be representing Islay as well at the Mòd this year.”

The Mòd has taken place for about 130 years.

Inverness, Fort William, Perth and Paisley are among the towns and cities to have hosted the Mòd.

Fort William is to host next year’s festival.

Organiser, An Comunn Gàidhealach (The Highland Association), was founded in Oban in 1891.
