Lettuce banner interrupts Liz Truss on stage in Beccles

Footage showed Liz Truss walking off a stage after a giant picture of a lettuce appeared behind her.

A banner, which also featured the words “I crashed the economy”, was slowly unfurled as the former prime minister spoke in Beccles, Suffolk.

She had been telling an audience why she believed Donald Trump would win the American election, when she was interrupted by the stunt, which activism group Led By Donkeys claimed responsibility for.

While she was prime minister, one tabloid newspaper claimed the length of her tenure was likely to be outlasted by the shelf life of a lettuce.

Ms Truss responded to the prank on X, external, claiming it was done to “intimidate people and suppress free speech”.
