Leicester City: Bobby De Cordova-Reid says inconsistent form is holding Foxes back

Leicester City’s hopes of challenging for promotion back to the Premier League hinge on addressing their erratic form, says forward Bobby De Cordova-Reid.

The Foxes have won just two of their seven Championship games in the past month – a run which has them languishing in the bottom half of the table in 14th place.

A 90th-minute goal from Jannik Vestergaard rescued a point for the Foxes at Wrexham on Tuesday night, which meant they moved to within five points of the play-off spots despite slipping one place in the standings.

Leicester’s ambition from the moment they suffered their second relegation from the Premier League in three years was to make an immediate top-flight return, as they did two seasons ago as Championship title winners.

Challenging for an automatic promotion spot, however, appears increasingly unlikely with Leicester 12 points adrift of the top two with 18 matches remaining.

When asked if Leicester’s attentions are now shifting to trying to land a place in the top six and building a run that could take them up via the play-offs, De Cordova-Reid admitted the Foxes “need to get back to winning ways”.

“The inconsistency hasn’t been good enough from us,” he told BBC Radio Leicester.

“We need to put a run together and we need to put good performances together over a 90-minute period.”
