A man has been arrested and houses have been evacuated after a suspicious item was found in a house in Leeds.

Police said potentially suspicious chemicals were found at a house on Lingmoor Street, Osmondthorpe, on Friday with officers working at the scene throughout the weekend.

A man who was arrested at the property on Friday was rearrested on Sunday and remains in police custody.

On Sunday, searches continued with officers widening the cordon around the house and evacuating adjacent properties.

West Yorkshire Police said “specialist support services” were attending the scene while the item is assessed.

A spokesperson said: “The expanded cordon has been put in place purely as a precaution and is normal procedure in such situations.”
