Larry the dog crowned winner of Richard Madeley lookalike contest

A pug called Larry has been crowned the winner of a Richard Madeley lookalike contest.

Hundreds of people keen to see who most resembled the Good Morning Britain and former This Morning and Granada presenter went to the competition in Alexandra Park in Stockport, Greater Manchester on Sunday.

Larry, complete with grey wig, shirt and pink bow tie, scooped the prize ahead of 13 other contestants.

His owner, Molly, from Edgeley, who came dressed as Madeley’s wife and fellow TV presenter Judy Finnigan, said she thought the pug looked “exactly like” the star.

Molly said: “When we found out about the competition we thought, shall we dress Larry up as Richard Madeley, and please can I be Judy then.

“We put this suit on and then we put a bow tie on and we put his wig on and he basically looked exactly like Richard Madeley.”

Hand-printed posters for the competition had appeared across Stockport earlier this month, but then disappeared ahead of the contest, according to Nicci Owen, who owns a coffee kiosk in the park.

Contestants were each given 10 seconds to impress the crowd with their “Madeley move” as part of the competition before the winner was announced, a spokesperson told BBC Radio Manchester.

Madeley, from Essex, co-presented ITV’s This Morning alongside his wife Judy Finnigan before the couple went on to host Richard & Judy from 2001 to 2009.

He is now a presenter on ITV’s breakfast programme Good Morning Britain.
