A message in a bottle sent out to sea by a 10-year-old in east Kent has been found washed up on a beach in Denmark after a 800-mile (1,287 km) journey.

John Moore helped his three granddaughters throw a bottle each from the seawall at Ramsgate Harbour at the end of November.

Olivia’s bottle was found in The Netherlands 200 miles (321km) away in December before it was thrown back out to sea and washed up in Jammerbugten in northern Denmark on 25 March.

Olivia said she was “excited” that her bottle had travelled so far.

She said: “When I threw the bottle into the sea we thought it was going to sink.”

Mr Moore had suggested getting his three granddaughters Jessica, Olivia and Rosie to launch a bottle each into the sea as “a project to keep them occupied”.

Olivia’s message read: “If you find my bottle please ring my granddad John.”

Mr Moore said he was contacted by a woman called Inge in Denmark who found the bottle.

The message read: “Hi Olivia and John. I’ve found your message in a bottle in the north of Denmark.

“I will throw it back in the sea.”

The bottle is now believed to be heading north towards Norway.

Mr Moore said: “Olivia was a bit speechless to hear how far her bottle had gone.

“Her dad has suggested that I take the girls on a holiday to follow the bottle’s route.

“It has been on quite a journey. “
