Kamran Rasool Aman died from a stab wound to the heart, the court was told

Two teenagers “fuelled by drink and rage” stabbed a 38-year-old dad to death in an unprovoked attack, a court has heard.

Kamran Rasool Aman was knifed in the heart just after midnight on 1 July in Barry, Vale of Glamorgan.

He was getting into his Volkswagen Passat after visiting his mother’s home when he was attacked, and left to bleed to death on the pavement.

The two defendants, aged 16 and 17 and both from Llantwit Major, cannot be identified because of their age. They have admitted manslaughter, but both deny murder.

Owen Edwards KC, prosecuting, told Cardiff Crown Court that Mr Aman was attacked “for no good reason by two young men fuelled by drink and rage”.

He said the defendants had spent the evening in a house nearby and they had been drinking heavily from early in the day.

A witness at the house said their behaviour became “increasingly volatile” as the night went on with one of the teenagers being described as “intent on violence”.

After an initial attack, the 17-year-old went back into the house, returning with a kitchen knife, stabbing Mr Aman through his clothes, penetrating his heart. He died shortly afterwards.

Mr Edwards KC said the boys appeared “proud” of their actions.

He said they shouted a racist insult aimed at Mr Aman who lay fatally wounded on the pavement.

Following the attack the teenagers went back into the house where they tried to bleach the knife, then ran away.

Police arrived quickly and the boys were arrested in nearby Port Road.

The court was told the younger boy, clearly drunk, tried to take charge, shouting instructions.

Mr Edwards KC said “he was initially pleased to see the police, initially co-operating until he was arrested for attempted murder when rage boiled over, caught on body-worn camera”.

The trial continues.
